Cleaning a 78 RPM record
My restoration process has been optimized to obtain the best audio possible from your recording. I started restoring records in 1995 and have improved both the techniques and the equipment since then.

After the original recording is obtained it is tranferred with minimal physical cleaning just in case the reording is damaged during the cleaning process. Then the record is cleaned using a Nitty Gritty record cleaning mackine and hand techniques. Then the proper stylus is chosen by trial and error or by previous experience. After the record is dry it is played again and recorded in the computer. Then using one of three software packages the audio is electronically declicked, de-crackeled, equalized and filtered. If desired noise reduction is also applied. Once this is done a test CD is made and listened to on a reference stereo. If the CD is deemed to be good, then the audio is given to the customer for their approval.

All this takes a lot of time, but is worth it!
